While the “spirit of Vatican II” is cited in practically every argument about further “reforms” needed in the Church, we are left with the question: Just whose “spirit” are we talking about? Let’s not be ignorant here. Despite contrary opinions, the Second Vatican Council was inspired by the Holy Spirit and it is only by studying the actual documents within the living Tradition of the Church that we will understand the Spirit behind the letter. We will examine those teachings which are most often misunderstood and which are needed to help bring about the positive reforms promulgated by the council which are yet to be realized.
